I’m always on the wrong side of the door
I shed too much
I get in your way underfoot
Still you seem to like it when I purr
Why don’t you like the bird I brought you
I could have kept it for myself, you know
You don’t appreciate the way I sing in the car
On the way to the vet
But I know when you’re taking me to get shots
And I hate needles.
You pick me up sometimes and stroke my fur
And you seem to like it when I purr
But not when I embed my claws in your neck
I’m not trying to hurt you, you know
How else can I impress you with the care I take to sharpen them
Just so
You think I am aloof
Guess what, human person
I may be cat
But I care about you
watch me preen in the sunbeam
I’ll give myself a noisy bath
Look at you with adoring reflective eyes
Give you a love bite when you try to pet me
I may be cat
But I care about you
Because I know you like it
When I purr.
