THE BULLFIGHT

I heard the crowd shouting
¡Olé! ¡Olé!
Their attention was rapt on the bullfight-
There was no use in pouting,
But hey. But hey!
To me this could never sit right,
for to my mind it seemed
like less of a sport
and more than a sin.

Gorge rose in my throat and I fervently wished
That this time
the bull
would win.
